FAQ
Questions people ask
If yours isn't here, just ask — I'd rather answer it than have you guess.
Do I need to be local to work with you?
No. Roughly half my clients are outside the Okanagan and work with me entirely by video. The only difference is that in-person sessions can include a look through your actual kitchen if that's useful, which some people find helpful and others find horrifying.
Are you a dietitian?
No, and it's an important difference. A Registered Dietitian is a provincially regulated health professional with a protected title. A Registered Holistic Nutritionist is a nutrition educator credentialed through a private professional body. I work with food, habits and education. If your situation calls for a dietitian — medically supervised nutrition, tube feeding, complex clinical care — I'll tell you and help you find one.
Will you tell me to stop taking my medication?
Never. That is between you and the person who prescribed it. If I think something you're eating or taking might interact with a medication, I'll tell you to check with your pharmacist, who is the right person for that question and is free to talk to.
Do I have to buy supplements?
No. Most of my clients change what they eat and never buy a single product from me. Existing clients can access a short list of practitioner-grade supplements if they want to, but it's genuinely optional and I make no assumption that you will.
Can you tell me what's wrong with me?
No — I can't diagnose, and I'd be doing you a disservice if I pretended otherwise. What I can do is look at your eating patterns and habits, help you make sensible changes, and flag anything that sounds like it needs a doctor's eyes.
How long before I notice anything?
It depends entirely on what we're changing. Energy and digestion often shift within two to three weeks. Other things take a season. I'd be suspicious of anyone promising you a timeline before they've met you.
What happens to my health information?
It's stored securely, used only to work with you, and never sold. The intake form contains sensitive information and is treated that way. The full detail is in the privacy policy, including where data is processed and how long it's kept.
What's your cancellation policy?
Twenty-four hours' notice, and there's no charge. Less than that and I charge half the session fee, simply because the time can't be filled. Life happens, though — talk to me.
Do you take insurance?
Some extended health plans cover holistic nutrition and many don't. I provide a receipt with my registration number on it, which is what your insurer will need. Check with your provider before booking rather than after.
Can you work with my doctor?
Gladly, and I prefer it. With your written permission I'm happy to share my notes with your physician, midwife or specialist. Nutrition works best alongside medical care, not in competition with it.
